Rare mid-century Columbus lounge chair designed by Hartmut Lohmeyer for Dux, Sweden, ca. 1954. Soft, sculptural form reflecting the shift towards organic Scandinavian modernism. Professionally restored with refinished wooden legs and new Nevotex upholstery, maintaining original proportions and character. Documented in Andreas Siesing’s reference book on Swedish furniture design.
A rare example of the Columbus lounge chair, designed by Hartmut Lohmeyer in the early 1950s and produced by Ljungs Industrier AB for Dux in Sweden.
Created during a period when Scandinavian furniture design shifted towards softer, more organic forms, the chair features a sculptural silhouette, low profile and an enveloping, highly comfortable shape.
The Columbus model was part of Dux’s Studio collection and remained in production only for a limited time, making it increasingly difficult to find on the market today.
This piece has been carefully restored, with refinished wooden legs and new upholstery in a high-quality textured Nevotex fabric (Sweden), Gute 102 Off White.
Brass details subtly complement the warm chocolate-toned wood. Restoration has been carried out with respect to the original design, maintaining its authentic proportions and character.
The model is documented in Andreas Siesing’s book
Svenska Möbler. Folkhemsform i ull, jakaranda, furu och bok 1949–1970.
